Today we looked at the thumbnails of the 16 page book. A theme and a look and feel is starting to emerge. We talked about coming up with publishing rules for future editions and about looking at "the competition" as a idea generator.
In class assignment was to go to the library and complete a quick review of magazines you liked, discussing as a group A) Issue / Volume rules, B) copy write info, C) subscription information and office location, D) closing index and E) taglines.
John was taking notes and will be posting information from class as well as next steps for Tuesday so that we are maintaining the timeline of the project. Catherine was clock monitor today.
John is going to determine how to put thumbnails in blog for the class.
Each team member is going to do a good thumbnail with plow (lower case) as the title. Each have to come up with a recommended tagline (in their thumbnail). Should be you version of what the cover should look like.
John going to start working in design templates...what the pages will look like.
Today in class we decided that the title of the zine is "Plow"
On the cover we are going going to have the month and year of the publication, Tagline (to be determined), barcode (this could possibly go on the back), and price. However, the main emphasis of the cover will be the photograph.
I am working on figuring out how to post our thumbnails on this blog. I will let you all know how to do it tomorrow if I figure it out.
Jim, if you have any tips about this I would be glad to hear them.
A) now that John has advised how to post stuff to the blog, post all your previous stuff by Monday - Lamarr post the timeline for the team,
B) For Monday you are going to make the 10-15 minute "Are we going in the right direction" presentation to your customer (Jim) that we talked about when we made our timeline [we will talk more on Wed about what to present / how to present],
C) for Monday you should be working and have ready to present, your content page,
D) Cathy is going to work on the cover and come up with 5 versions to show on Monday using all the items that have been agreed up to date - tagline, title, etc.
E) John has to flush out, make and present the individual-content-page templates for Wed's class so that teammates will have them to use over the weekend,
F) For Monday, John should start a Format Blog post with all the Format Rules that you are establishing. As you move forward all rules should be posted to this blog,
G) Cathy was going to post the information she gathered that can be used for the Fictitious 1 page by Monday.
H) Everyone should be thinking about the presentation that will be made on Monday for discussion on Wednesday.
In today's class we brainstormed a plan for Monday's presentation - determining the high level deliverables, milestones to highlight, key deliverables to highlight and an action plan.
The assignment is to make a 10 min presentation to your Client, Jim O'Brien. The goal of the presentation is to ensure that you have understood the assignment goal and to ensure that you are on track with your plan to deliver to that goal.
Each team member must participate equally in the presentation. How you achieve that goal is a decision of the entire team as a group.
The ultimate goal for this presentation is to be able to ask Jim, "Jim, as a result of this presentation, are we on track to deliver PLOW within your guidelines and expectations?"
Wednesday assignment(s): Lamarr - has to type up and provide to all team members the presentation plan. Lamarr is going to send it "secret" so that Jim doesn't see it here in the blog.
Cathy has to come up with 5 (more) covers using Cover #4 as the guide. With these versions she will play with color and size.
John has to baseline the template as best he can and publish it to a common location so that team members can download both the templates and fonts as one package.
